Equipment

  • Oven
  • Mixing bowls (large and small)
  • Whisk
  • Biscuit cutter or round glass
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Cooling rack
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour 2 cups
  • Sugar 1 tablespoon
  • Baking powder 1 tablespoon
  • Salt ½ teaspoon
  • Unsalted butter (cold and cubed) ½ cup
  • Whole milk (cold) ¾ cup
  • Melted butter (for brushing) 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  • Begin by setting your oven to preheat at 450°F (232°C). Meanwhile, arrange a sheet of parchment paper on your baking tray.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Introduce the chilled, diced butter into the dry ingredients. With your fingertips, incorporate the butter into the flour, aiming for a texture that resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Carefully incorporate the cold milk, mixing only until the dough pulls together. Avoid overmixing to ensure your Hardee's biscuit remains fluffy.
  • On a lightly floured surface, gently knead the dough a few times before patting it to about 1 inch in thickness.
  • Cut out the biscuits with your biscuit cutter or round glass and place them onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake the biscuits for about 12-15 minutes, or until they achieve a beautiful golden-brown hue. Take the biscuits out of the oven and immediately brush them with melted butter.
  • Before serving, let the biscuits rest and cool down on a rack for several minutes.

Notes

  • The key to replicating the Hardee's Biscuit recipe is gentle dough handling. Overmixing or over-kneading can result in tough biscuits.
  • For those seeking to add their own twist, consider adding a dash of garlic powder to the dry mix, or sprinkle some grated cheddar on top before baking.
  • Swapping whole milk for buttermilk can also add a pleasant tang to your biscuits.
  • Once you're comfortable with the basic recipe, you can experiment. Try adding things like cheese, herbs, or spices to the dough before baking.
