Combine water, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl, stirring until the sugar and yeast dissolve. Give the mixture 5 minutes to sit.
Combine salt and 3 cups of flour with the mixture, and mix until smooth.
Add the oil and flour to the mixture, and mix until the dough forms and comes together.
On a floured surface, knead the dough for 10 minutes after turning it out of the bowl.
Transfer the kneaded dough to a greased bowl, cover it, and leave it to rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Knock back the dough and transfer it onto a floured surface.
Divide the dough into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and shape it into a small loaf.
Grease a baking sheet and place the knots on it, then dust them with cornmeal. Allow the knots to rest for 30 minutes until they have risen.
Set the oven to 400 degrees and bake the bread for 20 to 25 minutes, or until it turns golden brown.
