- Fresh oranges (medium size) — 4
- Fresh lemon juice — 1 tablespoon
- White vinegar — 2 tablespoons
- Red chili flakes — 1 teaspoon
- Salt — ½ teaspoon
- Ground cumin — ½ teaspoon
- Garlic — 2 cloves
- Olive oil — 1 tablespoon
- Sugar — 1 tablespoon
- Water — 1 cup
Start by squeezing the fresh oranges and the lemon, and set the juice aside.
In a saucepan, heat the olive oil and sauté finely chopped garlic until it turns golden brown.
Add in the citrus juice, white vinegar, sugar, salt, ground cumin, and chili flakes. Stir well.
Add water and let the combination gently bubble on a medium flame for approximately 15 minutes, ensuring to mix it from time to time.
Allow the sauce to cool slightly, then transfer it to a blender. Blend until smooth.
Pass the sauce through a strainer to remove any solid parts. Return the smooth sauce to the saucepan and simmer for another 10 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
Our La Victoria Orange Sauce recipe is quite adaptable:
- Enhance the heat level by adding more chili flakes or a few drops of hot sauce.
- Consider incorporating orange zest into the La Victoria Orange Sauce recipe for an extra burst of citrus flavor.
- If you prefer a smoky flavor, add a chipotle pepper to the blend.
- For a smoother texture, blend the sauce for a longer period.
- Remember, the sauce will thicken upon cooling, so adjust the consistency accordingly.
