- Fruit juice (flavor of your choice) ½ cup
- Sugar 2 tablespoons
- Sodium alginate 2 grams
- Water 1 liter
- Calcium chloride 5 grams
Start by dissolving the sodium alginate in fruit juice. Blend thoroughly until there are no lumps.
Pour this mixture into a saucepan and heat it over medium heat. Add sugar and stir until it dissolves. Allow the mixture to cool.
In a separate bowl, thoroughly mix the calcium chloride with water until it's completely dissolved.
Using a syringe or dropper, drop small droplets of the juice mixture into the calcium chloride water.
Allow these droplets to sit in the water for about 3 minutes. They will form into small balls - your popping boba!
Use a sieve to remove the popping boba from the water. Rinse them gently under tap water.
Your homemade popping boba is ready to be added to any drink or dessert!
- For vegan popping boba, use agave syrup instead of honey/sugar.
- Try different fruit juices for unique flavors.
- If you want your popping boba to be sweeter, add more sugar to the fruit juice.
- To experiment with color, consider using food coloring in your boba mixture. This is a great way to match the boba with themed parties or special occasions.
- For a more adult twist, substitute a portion of the fruit juice with your favorite liqueur. Keep in mind, however, that adding too much alcohol can affect the formation of the boba.
